Korean Product Show 2007 Opens in Singapore

The inaugural Korean Product Show 2007 opened its doors to trade visitors and the general public at the Singapore Expo Monday.

Organized by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy of Korea (MOCIE), the show will take place over 3 days, 19 – 21 November 2007, featuring a wealth of world class products from innovative Korean companies to the consumers and business community in Singapore, ASEAN and South Asian countries.

With more than 80 exhibitors, ranging from Beauty and Cosmetics to Entertainment Systems to Industrial Equipment and Automotive Manufacturers, visitors will be able to experience the gamut of products on show.

Present at the show are Korean giants Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors.

This is also the first time that some Korean companies with operations in the Kaesong Industrial Complex – a special economic zone in North Korea are showcasing their products here. As the Korea-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (FTA) acknowledges South Korea as the country of origin for products including such special economic zones, this show opens up a route to foreign markets for products made in the Kaesong Industrial Complex.

The show also aims to serve as a match-making opportunity for Korean manufacturers and exporters to establish new business partnerships with local importers, agents and distributors, and to explore avenues for business development and expansion into the regional market. Organizers also aim to promote Singapore as a regional springboard for Korean companies to gain access to the Southeast Asian markets.

Other highlights of the show include a Korea Investment Forum with highlights on Jeju Island and Gangwon Province which will on the Investment Environment, Projects and Opportunities for the region.

“It is my full belief that this exhibition will serve as a significant point that can benefit the bilateral economic relationship between Korea and the region. As successful as this exhibition might be, KOTRA will actively pursue new opportunities to secure business and economic ties between Korea – Singapore, ASEAN and South Asian countries,” said Mr. Hong Ki Hwa, President of KOTRA.

South Korea is the 3rd largest economy in Asia, and the 11th largest in the world, based on GDP as of 2006, with one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world at 3.4 percent (2006 est) The country’s main industries include electronics, automobile production, chemicals, shipbuilding, steel, textiles, clothing, footwear and food processing.

Entry into the show is free, with visitor tickets available at the Visitor Registration counter.
