Red Hat to Make India Services Strategy Hub

RedHat is planning to make India the hub for its new services strategy a year after the company purchased its Indian Joint Venture (JV) partner and set up a fully owned subsidiary in India.

ReadHat competes with bigger rivals like Oracle and Microsoft to have a foothold in the Linux market share.

Apart from setting up the facility the company wants to partner with domestic players like Satyam to wheel out solutions in the country.

RedHat is being threatened by Oracle who is aggressively marketing the Linux front. Novell, on the other hand, has ventured into a deal with Microsoft on patent infringements. This move will ensure more subscriptions for its Suse Linux.

Red Hat global CFO Charlie Peters does not seem to be troubled by these developments. He made a mention that 98 of its 100 top customers renewed their subscriptions.

RedHat is planning to increase its headcount at the facility in Pune to 200 from 100.

In December 2006, the company announced a tie-up with Satyam Computer Services, the country’s fourth largest exporter, to develop open source solutions for customers.
