The Killersoft web site features an article by Clay Loveless that talks about monitoring PHP extension releases with Yahoo Pipes. The author talks about the first pipe that is created in PHP Extension Monitor. He says it’s an aggregated feed that pulls in release information on several extensions that aren’t announced in the PECL feed, such as Suhosin, XCache and DBXML.
About the creation process, he comments that Yahoo Pipes is an a tool built with UI scripting. But he notes that with Pipe the actual generation of feed is quite slow. He says, PHP Extension Monitor feed is a idea but Pipes proves to be too slow to handle it. He wants to create a traditional back-end aggregator to solve this problem.
