Japanese electronics company Sony has said that it has sold half a million of its new PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld game machines in Japan in just two weeks after its launch.
Sony Computer Entertainment said that total sales in September alone reached their highest level for the PSP since the launch of the original in December 2004.
The new model is slimmer, lighter and comes with new functions and colours designed to appeal to a wider audience including women. It was launched on September 20.
Sony, which was the innovator of the Walkman, is trying to regain its credentials with the youth market after struggling in recent years against new products like Apple's iPod and Nintendo's Wii. |
