Telecommunications provider Telefonica O2 and internet behemoth Yahoo entered into a strategic partnership Monday which will see the UK based O2 provide its mobile customers in the UK and Latin America with mobile search and advertising services.
As part of the new deal, O2 customers will be able to access Yahoo’s mobile search platform, oneSearch, which delivers immediate results that do not require as many clicks as a traditional Internet search does. Customers will also be able to check their Yahoo mail via MMS messaging.
Yahoo is confident that mobile Web is set to become popular with the integration of 3G and HSDPA, the emergence of more intuitive mobile user interface and the shift towards flat rate data charging.
oneSearch was said to be developed from the ground up keeping in mind that what works on the desktop does not necessarily have to work on the mobile. Its searches are primarily designed for the mobile screen. |
