Three months after launching the iPhone, Apple has suddenly slashed the price of its new baby claiming that by doing so, it was expanding the market making it more affordable for buyers before the holiday season starts in December. Apple cut the prices of the 8GB iPhone by USD 200 to USD 399.

Meanwhile Apple has also introduced a new touch screen version of its hugely popular music player iPod. The new generation iPod is modeled after after iPhone. It has transformed its music player into a multimedia Web surfing device, adding WiFi access. Besides that, it has struck a wireless music distribution deal with the Starbucks in the US.

Though nothing is known as to why Apple reduced the price of its iPhone, some say it is because Apple wanted to sell one million handsets by end of his month. This is a reason that Apple topper Steve Jobs does not want to clamour for. Jobs said that Apple would have been able to sell one million iPhones even without a price cut.

Jobs said, “We are a high-volume manufacturer, and we are pretty good at getting costs down. It is very clear we have a breakthrough product on our hands, but it is also clear that many can afford it, some can’t. We’d like to make it affordable to even more folks going into this holiday season.”

Apple also launched the iPod Touch, the music for USD 299 for a 8 GB model and USD 399 for a 16 GB model. Although the model looks similar to iPhone, it does not have calling features.

The new digital music player has touch-screen controls Wi-Fi antenna that allows users to directly connect it to the Internet. It also has a browser, which makes it more of a hand-held computer than any other music player.

Users will be able to connect to a new iTunes Wi-Fi store where they can download songs directly to their music players from a Wi-Fi connection.
