Acer Inc. made headlines yesterday confirming plans to acquire computer and peripherals manufacturer Gateway Inc. in what it describes as “the biggest acquisition in Acer’s 30 year history.”
The 710 million dollar deal is said to boost Acer’s presence to number three in the global PC market challenging rival Lenovo head-on. Acer is currently the eighth largest PC vendor in the world.
Industry analyst predict this move will benefit Acer the most in the U.S consumer market where it remains in the sixth place amongst PC vendors but have reservations on how the Taiwan based company plans to integrate its operations with the Irvine, California headquartered Gateway and how smooth the integration will go.
