Skype, one of the most popular VoIP services globally, which faced a blackout yesterday has been restored, the company said.

There were login problems that shut many uses yesterday and after restoring the services, the company said more work on the restoration was to be done.

In its blog, the company said, "We're fixing issues in our networking software and monitoring the clients getting online with increased success."

As the news of blackout came out, Skype said its engineers were working on fixing the software that would take anywhere between 12-24 hours.

"The Skype system has not crashed or been victim of a cyber attack," the company said in a post.

Skype said the problem was the result of a "deficiency in an algorithm within Skype networking software." The problem was related to the interaction between a Skype client and the rest of Skype's peer-to-peer network, it said.
