Motorola has finally admitted that it is worried about the effect of Apple’s iPhone, which was launched in the US on Friday.
US based Motorola, the world’s second largest handset maker after Nokia, has been struggling since the start of this year after its attempt to increase its market share led to a loss of USD 181 million.
Padmasree Warrior, the Indian born Chief Technology Officer of Motorola, however is still optimistic and says the iPhone had inherent weaknesses and only a few would buy the product that has been highly hyped.
Motorola has been struggling in the highly competitive mobile phone market where it hasn’t had much success since the launch of MotoRazr in 2004. MotoRazr was a blockbuster product from Motorola in a very long time. Though the company did reduce the price of MotoRazr and launched several variants, the attempts to catch up Nokia backfired after the company lost a lot of money.
Motorola is still pinning hopes its fortune will be resurrected later this year when it launches the MotoRazr 2, a advanced version of former phone that can run on 3G telecom technologies. |
