According to a new study by Edison Media Research, today more Americans are turning to Internet to gather their daily dose of news, information and entertainment than TV.
The survey, called Internet and Multimedia 2007, said that 33 per cent of the respondents chose Internet as the most essential medium in their lives, although TV viewers were slightly higher at 36 per cent. Only 17 per cent of the respondents depended on radio while for newspapers’ the figure was paltry 10 per cent.
The New Jersey based surveyor also said in 2002, 20 per cent of the US population preferred the Internet while for TV it was 39 per cent and the radio listenership stood at 26 percent.
According to the company, 35 per cent of the respondents said newspapers were the "least essential" medium, up from 31 per cent in 2002; 38 per cent said the Internet was the "most cool and exciting" medium which was up from 25 per cent in 2002; and 37 per cent watched TV more lately.
"It is not a stretch to say that the Internet has become just as important as television as an important source of information and entertainment in the lives of Americans," said Larry Rosin, president of Edison Media. |
