China Heads Toward 500M Mobile Phone Subscribers

China’s mobile subscribers are most probably going to surpass 500 million by June end of 2007. by the end of April, china had 487.4 million mobile-phone subscribers, an increase of 6.7 million over March.
Jason Yin, the managing director of In-Stat China, said, "Even when I'm at home, I prefer to use my mobile phone. The signal is very good and costs are competitive, and I have all of my contacts inside". He added, "It's just convenient."
While the Chinese mobile phone industry is expected to grow only 8.5per cent to 111.6 million units in 2007, their shipment share dropping to 20per cent.
Chinese makers such as Huawei, ZTE, and Haier see an escalation in shipment growth, and the number of subscribers in third- and fourth-tier cities in China is expanding as well.
The global mobile phone shipment volume amounted to 980 million units in 2006.
